What is a thyristor switching module?

A thyristor module replaces the capacitor-duty contactor with solid-state switching. It switches at the voltage zero-crossing, so stages come in without the inrush transient that stresses capacitors and disturbs sensitive equipment — and there are no contacts to weld or wear out.

Thyristor-switched banks respond within cycles instead of seconds, making them the right choice where the load changes quickly, or where conventional contactors are failing from very frequent switching.

Common questions

Thyristor Switching Module — FAQs

Why use a thyristor module instead of a contactor?

Thyristor modules switch at the voltage zero-crossing, so there is no inrush transient, and being solid state they have no contacts to weld or wear — ideal where stages switch many times an hour.

Can I retrofit thyristor switching to an existing panel?

Often yes — the modules replace the capacitor-duty contactors and pair with a fast APFC controller. Send us the panel details and stage ratings and we'll advise.

Do thyristor modules need cooling?

They dissipate heat and are normally mounted on heatsinks with adequate panel ventilation or forced cooling. We specify the arrangement with the panel design.
