Power factor correction FAQs
What is an APFC panel?
An Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) panel automatically switches capacitor banks in and out to keep your power factor close to unity. A controller reads the load through a CT and adds the right amount of reactive power (kVAR), improving efficiency and avoiding low-power-factor penalties.
How does power factor correction reduce my electricity bill?
Utilities penalise a low power factor and bill on demand (kVA). By raising power factor toward unity, an APFC panel lowers your kVA demand and reactive-power charges, and reduces losses in cables and transformers — so it often pays for itself quickly.
How do I size an APFC panel?
Sizing depends on your connected load, the existing and target power factor, and the load profile. Share your electricity bill or a power quality log and we'll calculate the required kVAR and recommend the stages, capacitors and whether detuned reactors are needed.
Do I need detuned reactors?
If your plant has significant harmonics — from drives, UPS or other non-linear loads — detuned reactors protect the capacitors from harmonic overload and resonance. We'll advise based on your load and a power quality check.
